Misclassification Maze: Finding a Path for Trucking's Future

Since the Department of Labor's recent ruling on independent contractors, the truckload industry concerns continue to mount over the significant implications that this regulation will have on the time-tested business model that is reflective of the American dream. Given the industry's reliance on independent contractors, the new rule may lead to reclassifications under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Our experts, from Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary, P.C. will look to shed light on this significant rulemaking and further expound on such state-related issues such as lawsuit abuse and predatory towing.

Key Takeaways:

  • Understand how recent misclassification rules impact your fleet and operations

  • What impact you can have at the state level regarding lawsuit abuse and predatory towing.

Clean Freight Coalition Update

The transition to zero emission vehicles is concerning to all in the industry and represents significant challenges that we all are certain to face.  TCA has been a founding member of the Clean Freight Coalition, an alliance of truck transportation stakeholders committed to a clean energy future for America’s trucking industry advocating for sound public policies that transition towards a zero emissions future.  The efforts of the coalition focus on the very fact that the transition away from carbon-based fuels must be a careful process that depends on cost parity, the right market incentives, necessary infrastructure, and access to a wide array of scarce natural resources.

Join us as Jacqueline Gelb, the Vice President of Energy and Environmental Affairs for the American Trucking Associations updates everyone on the status of the coalition and the progress on a study that will analyze what the infrastructure costs and obstacles are to electrifying the nation’s medium and heavy-duty trucks.
